I still don’t understand why we are expected to tip: waiters/waitresses, the mailman, garbage man, etc. They are paid to do a job just as we all are. Some say we should tip because their wages are low; they do a service, etc. Most peoples jobs are for some kind of service or another: the bus driver, the plumber, the appliance repair man, cashier at grocery store, newspaper delivery woman. The car salesman does me a service by being nice and telling me all about the car I want to buy. I think if a person is in a job that doesn’t pay well, he/she should go to school and learn for a better job or the employer should raise salaries. It seems now that it is compulsory to tip or one is looked at as being the bottom of the barrel cheapskate.
