I was skimming some posts, and felt like sharing some of my boneheaded mistakes I've made when I used to work in restaurants.

- grabbed a birthday dessert from another server on the expo line, either one of us noticing it said "birthday" on the ticket, which means singing. Rushed out, dropped it on a table of confused-looking patrons, and kept going. About three steps into my departure, I realized why they looked confused... the server who's table it was ran out right behind me, hijacked the dessert and had to re-deliver it with the proper birthday singing.

- filled in as a food runner at a place I was a bartender at (and in being their bartender, I rarely ran food and certainly never served it, it just wasn't that kind of bar), grabbed a large plate with a steam artichoke app with my left hand in a not-very-secure way since I didn't realize how heavy this crazy plate was, and my non-dominant wrist started to give out half way through the dining room. I was already carrying something in my right hand and lowered my body slowly to floor to rest the plate on my knee before it fell completely, all the while whispering to nearby co-workers to grab the plate from me without any patrons noticing...

- during crazy dinner rushes at the crappy chain restaurant I used to work at, a couple times I've doubled-up the bills. Meaning a table came, ate, paid cash and I would forget to cash out the check (since paying with cash is so uncommon nowadays). Then, the new table which sat down would get their food added onto the existing bill I'd forgotten to cash out. Luckily I would catch it before dropping the check, since the resulting bill would be about $300 and two feet long. Whoops.

- When a table at a fancier-type restaurant I worked at asked if we would sing happy birthday to their 11-year-old, I said yes without really thinking. I mean, who would deny an 11-year-old a happy birthday song? All the servers, and even the manager, said no. I had to make the bus boys sing with me. It's was very weird, and echo-y. Bus boys aren't good at harmonizing =P

I'm sure I have more... is anyone else willing to own-up to stupid stuff you've done at work?

I came around the corner and said to the two people in the corner booth as I rushed by (because it was very busy) "I'll be with you ladies in just a minute".

When I came back, I saw that the lady with the long brown hair whose back of the head was all I saw as I passed by, was actually the 15 year old skater dude son of the lady across the table from her.

Hehe, teleburst. I've seen guests who are like 'pat' from SNL. Face to face, I'm trying to guess if it's a man or woman.

Was very hard not to say ma'am or sir to the person at the table until I was sure...

*laughs*
