All this talk about french fries in the other thread has made me realize I don't even like fries unless they come from a fast food place. I know that's horrible, but the ones in the chains are usually old and stale. So who on earth cares enough about fries to make a fuss. who even eats them more than once a month? |

I refuse to eat the fries at our restaurant anymore for the same reasons. Sometimes I'll go on the line and take one when it sounds good, but they get old fast and I'm just sick of them. I couldn't imagine getting them as my side when I'm out more than once a month, let alone every single time. Mind boggling. |

The only time I like fry is on a Panini. If you're ever in Pittsburg go to Primanti Brothers. I swear they put crack in the frys. I gotta agree about the chain places. There must be one crappy potato farm that supplies all the frys forApplebees, Fridays, Chilis etc. |

Problem with those places is the food they cook in the fryers are not just fries. They cook onions, chicken, fries, cheesesticks, etc. This begins to break down the grease faster and you get a burnt taste from the oil in the fries. (sorry, went to cooking school) McDonalds, and other places where the oil has 'crack' in it is used only for fries. They cook chicken nuggets and apple pies in the other fryer, or they seperate the frying. Tis good, those yummy fries, tis good. |

Good to know Voz. At least I'm not crazy thinking fast food fries taste good. There's an actual reason behind it. I actually don't know anybody who picks fries as their side. There's just so many better ones. |

Rev, one of my customers just the other day was telling me how Pittsburgh is the feeding frenzy capitol. He mentioned imperticular those humongous sandwiches with fires on them. Also he said he lost 20 pounds upon moving to Florida. He couldn't find any good places to eat. He lost a chin. Formerly Jammie

'cinta, I hate to say it but he's right, I've eaten overstuffed Panini's sandwiches in a dozen states and none compare to the original. I go back every year for the Browns/Steelers game and I'm already drooling waiting for this years trip. That city is a giant coronary waiting to happen and I love it. |

He told me that on Sunday mornings when he is visiting mom and pop its like he was 12 again. He gets sent down to the local bakery to get the bread still hot out of the oven. You go around the back door and give mom a buck for the most delicious Italian bread you ever had. Another local favorite a little hole in the wall that sells only meatball or sausage subs. For an outrageous $2.99 or something like that. Business that have been operating for years in the same place by the same people. Best sub you ever had, according to him. I hope he is not toying with my affections, he did promise to bring me one. Pretty cool. He did really tell me he lost a chin, when he went home after about 3 months, every one asked him if he had been sick. Never been there but it has my vote. Formerly Jammie

I don't really like fries. From anywhere. But give me a loaded baked potato! There's a place in town that sells one that has everything you could imagine in it.... roast beef, bacon, chicken, cheese, sour cream, japalenos, onions, the list goes on and on... It's about $6 for the potato and amazing! I know it sounds nasty but it is wonderful! I haven't had one in about a year and a half now. Before my friend died she used to bring me one once a month. I just don't have it in me to go there and get one. Sorry just my opinion. I just don't like fries. But if John has some and I have the munchies I may steal a few! I am all about a baked potato! Love them plain too... just not a big fry fan~ |

Also from the site: "Dutch snackbars typically offer at least 8 condiments or combinations of them (the condiments are never free in the Netherlands), but some serve up to 40 different styles." If she's not from there, she sure would love it there, except for the fact that the condiments are never free, but we know that she'd somehow come up with a reason to get a coupon for free condiments. Now that I think about it, I vote for her moving there. You see this lords?? It's a dream come true. Up to 40 different sauces for you to ruin your fries with!! Yay!! |

I used to work at a restaurant in NY that the favorite thing for the drunks to order was fries with brown gravy, onions, and cheese.... |

That's big down here in the south fries and gravy. I have a friend from Germany, she says its popular there too. O.K. its settled fries and brown gravy are popular everywhere. I like baked sweet potatoes, since Im the only one in the house that does when I have the oven going I throw a couple in. There is a place in the mall that sells only potatoes. They are rather expensive but they dress them up with whatever you want on them. Formerly Jammie

I live in the midwest and fries with gravy is definitely not popular here. To be honest, gravy isn't so popular in general. I don't know why. |

Gravy is popular in the midwest! You must be down south or something. Mashed potatos, chicken fried steaks, meatloaf, stuffing, hashbrowns: all things midwesterners put gravy on. We didn't eat fries with gravy, but a few blocks away in Canada they did. Weird how an international river seperating two neighboring cities can have such varied cultures. |

Milk gravy is the best for potatoes, whether mashed or whole. Brown gravy is not one of my favorites, but I suffer through it...8P Fries cannot be eaten without ketchup. It's my religion that I stand by. I've seen others eat it with other things and without ketchup. Sinners! |

Green Tabasco on fries is my only way. I'm not a big fan of ketchup, unless its on a hotdog.

In Germany, fries are usually eaten with mayonnaise. However, it's a different kind of mayo. It's creamier and it's yummy! I often think about getting some for my fries here. It's big in the Netherlands as well... |
