You can absolutely tip your massage therapist, anytime , anywhere!! At their house it is not expected but of course thoughtful. At your house, about 10% (most therapists will raise their price for out-calls; due to gas and travel time). In an office- regardless if they are the owner or not, 15-20% is most common. Depending on the session, their knowledge, if they go over on time, etc. Some therapists won't accept a tip if they know you are strapped or if you've been a long time client. Even if I got a BAD massage I tipped $5 for an hour. But I've been known to tip $30 on an hour as well. Happy tipping!!

I don't tip my massage therapist because I go to a Massage School where the students are not allowed to accept tips. If you want to give a tip it goes into the school's "general fund." I go maybe 6 times a year and tip $50.00 in December to the general fund. When I went to private places I gave $5.00 or 20% depending on how good I felt afterwards.

My wife & I disagree. She thinks anyone who provides a personal service should be tipped. How much is another discussion. I think that if the massage therapist is self employed and charging $70/hr, there is no need to tip. I don't tip my chiaropractor, dental hygenist, or optician and I see the massage therapist as a similar professional.
