I don't tip, but I stand outside in the cold with them, and try and make it easy (unlock my gas tank and take off the cap for them). lol, they really deserve tips though, that job is wretched in the winter, especially around here. |

tipqueen, In certain states (New Jersey), it's illegal to pump your own gas. I think in this case, you give them $1 - $2 a fill. But from my experience up there, it seems like tips are pretty rare. |

I think to them it's a safety issue. I found it quite annoying and stupid myself, but it's just the way it is. |

I tip $1-$2 a fill up. I wish we couldn't pump our own gas. I hate doing that. |

Yeah, I gotta say, I'm from NJ originally, and I hate pumping my own gas. I feel like a man doing it, because for me its always been a guy in a flannel shirt that smokes cigs non stop and pumps gas in the cold all day. I don't want to stand out in the rain, sleet or snow to pump gas in my car. I don't want to smell like gasoline because some spilled on me. Plus, its cheaper here, too! I dunno - just not used to it, I guess. Funny story. I came to Florida to live, but haven't had a car since Brooklyn. So I pull up to the tank and sit there for 5 minutes waiting for the attendant. Then I blow my horn to get him. So the guy comes out and I stare at hime like "hello??!". THEN I recall that I have to pump my own gas her! I was so emabarassed, all I could do was shrug and squeak out "I'm from Jersey" "and yeah...why don't you go ahead and come in on Sunday, too...get a jump on the week, k?"
